Scott Municipal Park

Scott Municipal Park is one of the best places to spend a day if you’re visiting Guntersville Lake in Alabama.

The first thing you’ll notice when you arrive at Scott Municipal Park is the beautiful scenery. The park is located on the shores of Guntersville Lake, and it features stunning views of the water and the surrounding mountains. There are plenty of trees and green spaces, which make it a great place to relax and enjoy the outdoors.

In addition to its natural beauty, Scott Municipal Park also offers a wide range of amenities and activities. Jackson County Park

Jackson County Park at Guntersville Lake is located amidst rolling hills and dense forests, providing visitors with stunning views no matter where they look. The park features over 12 miles of trails, perfect for those who want to explore the area on foot or by bike. And of course, the centerpiece of the park is Guntersville Lake itself, a beautiful body of water that’s perfect for fishing, swimming, or just enjoying a leisurely boat ride.

In addition to the aforementioned hiking and biking trails, Jackson County Park also has an exquisite 18-hole disc golf course, two sand volleyball courts, a playground, and a dog park.

If you’re an animal lover, you’ll be happy to know that Jackson County Park is home to deer, turkey, bobcats, coyotes, and even bald eagles. So keep your eyes peeled—you never know when you might spot some wildlife during your visit!

Fishing the Lake

Alabama is home to some of the best freshwater fishing in the country, and Guntersville Lake is one of the state’s top destinations. Here are five of our favorite fishing spots on Guntersville Lake.

Sauty Bridge – One of the best spots to fish on the lake is Sauty Bridge. The bridge spans the length of the lake and provides anglers with easy access to deep-water concrete pylons. The best time to fish from Sauty Bridge is in the early morning or evening hours just after a rain storm when the sun isn’t as high in the sky and the water is flowing strong. The sun can make it difficult to see your line, so it’s best to avoid fishing during midday.

Bridges are typically built in areas where the land is naturally closer together. This makes the bridge easier to build and minimizes costs by selecting an area that is narrower making it easier to traverse over the water. As the water being pushed downstream naturally speeds up as it pushes through this narrow gully. The current also helps push microscopic organisms that fish feed on to be rapidly grouped together and pushed through this constricted portion of the lake like a roller coaster. Large bass, crappie, and other species of fish hang out under the bridge at times like these to easily feed on the snack food quickly passing by.

The cool temperatures of the morning and evening also make for better fishing since the fish are more active during these times. Try your hand at any of the many bridges over Lake Guntersville. Each and every one is unique and some are infamous for their abundant catches.

Gunters Reef – Guntersville Reef is located near the dam on Guntersville Lake. To get to the reef, you can put in at the Goose Pond Colony public boat ramp. The ramp is located off of AL-69, just south of the city of Scottsboro. Once you’re on the water, the reef is marked by buoys so it’s easy to find.

The most popular fish to catch at Guntersville Reef are striped bass, also known as rockfish. Other fish that are commonly caught at the reef include largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, crappie, bream, and catfish.

Divers, don’t get excited by our use of the word reef here we are referring not to a diver’s paradise teaming with tropical fish. A reef in lake-speak is known as a ”Bar” which is similar to a sand bar because it’s a shallow portion of the lake or a protruding portion of an island surrounded by at least 3 sides of deep water. This underwater structure is a safe-haven for fish and a common place for freshwater fishermen to cast their baits.

Cotaco Creek Ramp – This fishing spot is perfect for those looking to catch largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, spotted bass, Crappie, bluegill, and catfish. The Cotaco Creek Ramp is located on the north side of Guntersville Lake in northern Alabama. The ramp is open year-round and offers both covered and uncovered docking. Some of the amenities at the ramp include a fish cleaning station, picnic tables, and a grill.

Lily Pads – This secluded fishing spot is one of the best-kept secrets on the lake. The Lily Pads are located on the north side of Guntersville Lake, near the Point Marina. To get there, simply follow the signs from the marina. Once you reach the Lily Pads, you’ll see why it’s such a popular spot for fishing! The secluded location ensures that you won’t be bothered by any noisy boaters or jet skiers. And, there’s plenty of fish to be caught here. The most common catches include bass, crappie, and catfish.

Gross Hollow – Gross Hollow is a quiet little cove nestled away from the hustle and bustle of the main lake. It’s the perfect spot for those looking to get away from it all and enjoy some peace and quiet. No matter what type of fish you’re looking to catch, chances are you’ll find it here. The deep waters of Gross Hollow are perfect for lure fishing, while the shallow flats are ideal for fly fishing. And with so many different types of fish in the area, there’s always something biting.
