The State of Georgia is situated in the southeastern region of the United States. While the state is mainly land locked, Georgia has approximately 100 miles of coastline along the Atlantic Ocean. The saltwater coastline stretches from the Savannah River, which forms the border between Georgia and South Carolina, to the St. Marys River, which forms the border between Georgia and Florida. The Georgia coast is known for its barrier islands, salt marshes, and diverse wildlife, including sea turtles, dolphins, and shorebirds. The cities of Savannah and Brunswick are located along the Georgia coast and are popular destinations for tourism and recreation.
Lake Hartwell is a sizable lake that spans the boundary between South Carolina and Georgia in the northeastern quadrant of the state. Lake Hartwell has a surface area of 56,000 acres. Despite not being completely situated within Georgia’s borders, a sizable portion of the lake is situated there.
Covering 37,500 acres, Lake Seminole is a reservoir located in the southwestern part of the state. It is known for its bass fishing and is also a popular destination for water sports like water skiing and wakeboarding.
With a surface area of 37,000 acres, Lake Lanier is the largest lake wholly located within Georgia state lines. It is located in the northern part of the state and is a very popular destination for boating, fishing, and water sports.
The second largest lake within the borders of the state is Lake Oconee. Having a surface area of 19,050 acres. It is situated in the state’s center and popular for its boating and fishing possibilities.
Lake Sinclair is situated just south of Lake Oconee. With a surface area of 15,330 acres, this lake is a good size and a favorite for boating and angling. It is situated in the state’s center and is well-known for its crappie and largemouth bass angling.
The fifth largest lake inside the perimeter of Georgia’s borders is called Lake Allatoona, and it has a surface size of 12,010 acres. It is situated in the state’s northern region and is well-known for camping, angling, and boating.
West Point Lake is Georgia’s sixth-largest lake with a surface size of 12,000 acres. It is a well-liked location for camping, boating, and fishing and is situated on the boundary between Georgia and Alabama.
